Awami League Leader’s Brother Hacked to Death

Md. Shipon (45) was hacked to death by miscreants in Sandwip Upazila of Chattogram, Bangladesh. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday (June 3) afternoon in the Paan Ainna Gopat area of Ward No. 9 under Maitbhanga Union of the upazila.

The deceased, Md. Shipon, was a resident of Ward No. 7 in Mogdhora Union. He was the son of Ansarul Haque. His elder brother, Md. Sakhawat Hossain alias Bokul, was the former general secretary of the Awami League in a ward of Sandwip.

According to locals, Shipon was also involved in Awami League politics and operated a poultry farm. On the day of the incident, locals spotted his bloodied body lying on the ground and informed the police. Police later recovered a motorcycle from the scene.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sandwip Police Station, AKM Shafiqul Islam, said, “Nothing can be said for certain yet about the incident. However, initial assumptions suggest that the miscreants stopped the motorcycle and hacked Shipon to death due to a previous conflict. His body has been recovered and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy after the inquest.”

The OC added, “Legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint from the victim’s family.”
