A distressing incident took place on Thursday night (June 26) in Bahechar Panchkitta village under Ramchandrapur Dakshin Union of Muradnagar Upazila, Cumilla. A 25-year-old Hindu woman, who had returned to her father’s house for a visit, was allegedly raped by local BNP leader Fozor Ali after he forcibly broke into her room.

According to the survivor, she arrived at her father’s home about 15 days earlier from her husband’s residence. Around 10:00 PM on Thursday night, Fozor Ali came to her house and asked her to open the door. When she refused, he allegedly broke in and raped her.

Her aunt, Shoroshoti Bormon, stated, “A religious ceremony was ongoing at a nearby house. I was about to go there when I heard a strange noise next door. Alarmed, I rushed to the puja venue and brought people with me. When we arrived, we saw the door was broken and found the victim inside.”

Local resident Sojib recounted, “There was a religious event at the Hindu household that night. Around 10:30 PM, the victim’s aunt informed us that something was happening next door. We rushed there and found the door broken. Inside, we caught Fozor Ali in the act of raping the woman. We rescued her immediately.”

He further added, “Since August 5, Fozor Ali has been associating with BNP activists and presenting himself as a BNP leader. He is notorious in the area for various criminal activities.”

The woman’s uncle, Nokul Bormon, expressed serious concerns about safety: “We are living in constant fear. If my niece can be assaulted in this way today, tomorrow it could be anyone in our family. We demand justice and protection.”

Attempts to contact the accused, Fozor Ali, on his mobile phone were unsuccessful despite multiple efforts.

Muradnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidur Rahman confirmed, “A case has been filed by the victim. Our team is actively working to apprehend the accused, and we expect to arrest him soon.”
