In Bangladesh’s Khulna district, during a BNP program, an agitated crowd physically assaulted Sub-Inspector (SI) Sukanta Das in the Purn Islamic Gate area and handed him over to the police. He is currently in police custody.
New Dhaka Times: Desk Report
At the time, SI Sukanta was arriving at the location in a CNG-powered three-wheeler. The crowd stopped the vehicle, dragged him out, and assaulted him. Later, local BNP leaders calmed the situation and turned him over to the police. Currently, he remains at the police station, where necessary legal actions are in progress.
From the scene, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kabir Hossain said, “After receiving reports of the incident, police arrived at the spot and rescued him, then brought him to the station. He is now in custody and did not suffer any injuries.”
It was learned that Sukanta Das had been absconding since the 2023 mass uprising due to serious allegations of torture filed against him. Later, he was posted to Alamdanga Police Station in Chuadanga.
The incident has raised concern in both social and political circles. However, the situation was brought under control through direct intervention by the local administration and BNP leaders and activists.
