A garment worker named Md. Hridoy was tied with a rope and beaten to death over allegations of theft at a garment factory; after a video of the incident spread on social media, it sparked public outrage.

Md. Hridoy (19), a worker at a garment factory named Greenland Limited in Konabari, Gazipur, was brutally beaten to death over allegations of theft. The incident took place inside the factory on Friday night (27 June). Hridoy was the son of Abul Kalam from Shuktar Baid village in Ghatail upazila of Tangail district and worked as a mechanical technician at Greenland Limited.
A 1-minute and 16-second video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing Hridoy tied with a rope to a window in an office room of the factory while being beaten. Blood can be seen coming from his mouth and nose, and he is being dragged away in an unconscious state. Several people present around the scene are seen laughing, and some are heard saying, “He has been beaten a lot, yet nothing happened, he hasn’t died.”
Hridoy’s elder brother, Liton Mia, has filed a murder case at Konabari Police Station under the Gazipur Metropolitan Police. No names have been mentioned in the case. Police have already arrested a young man named Hasan Mahmud alias Mithun (28), who is also a worker at the same factory.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station, Salauddin, stated that all individuals involved in the beating and killing of Hridoy have been identified. One person has been arrested, and efforts to arrest the others are ongoing.
Superintendent of Police of Gazipur Industrial Police, AKM Zahidul Islam, said that following the incident, the factory has declared a two-day holiday. It is expected to reopen on Tuesday.
